June 8, 10 a.m. Service Guest Speaker Kokeb Gedamu

Messianic Rabbi Kokeb Gedamu, and his wife Menalu, are Ethiopian messianic Jews who were part of the Beta Yisrael people in Ethiopia.  During the communist rule of Ethiopia, Kokeb and his wife fled their country making the harrowing journey through the desert to Sudan.  They encountered many trials and the Lord miraculously delivered them from injury and persecution.

Kokeb Gedamu is an ordained Rabbi of the IAMCS (International Alliance of Messianic Congregations And Synagogues).  Congregation Burning Bush is also a member congregation of the IAMCS.  He serves the IAMCS as their Regional Director for Africa.  He also is the Director of the Board of Operation Tikvah (a humanitarian aid project) of the MJAA (Messianic Jewish Alliance of America).  He also speaks in different congregations and churches in the United States to spread the message of what Yeshua is doing among the Ethiopian Jewish people in Ethiopia and Israel.  He has a passion for revival, healing and deliverance, marriage, and teaching on the Jewish roots of faith in Yeshua.  Go to his website

June 8, 7.30 p.m.  תִּקּוּן לֵיל שָׁבוּעוֹת

Tikkun Leil Shavuot

Study, Prayer, and Dairy Fest

The Tikkun is a late night evening of prayer and study sessions interspersed with dairy treats (and coffee). It will start at 7:30 p.m.  The traditional topics are the book of Ruth, and the opening a closing verses of any Shabbat portion.  Kokeb Gedamu will be one of our session leaders.

  • Dairy dishes (for the evening snack time) The Ten Commandments were given on Shavuot, so it is customary to have food that reflects the “milk of the Word.”  (This is a Messianic Scriptures phrase, but was clearly not foreign to the ancient Rabbis.)  Therefore, cheesecakes, cheese blintzes, cheese kugel, and cheese kreplach would be wonderful.  Recipes for your experimentation and delight are on the recipe page of our website.  Scroll down to Shavuot recipes.
  • Veggies or salads and dips, nachos and cheese, chips and dip, cheese danish, etc., would all be appropriate at the Tikkun.

The Vision of Or HaOlam:

Working to bring Jewish people, and those grafted in, to their covenantal identity in Messiah.  Implies: 1.) Salvation through the Atonement of the Messiah; personal faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Yeshua; it's all about the King  2.) Covenantal identity of Jewish people, not replacement  3.) Restoration to Torah lifestyle  4.) Restoration/survival of the nation of Israel. (Covenantal identity, so Jewish believers don't assimilate.  Romans 11:15 "For if their casting Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean?  It will be life from the dead!)
