חנוכה Hanukkah Party Sunday afternoon, December 29th
Hanukkah חנוכה means Dedication, and is the celebration of the Maccabee victory over Greek-Syrian genocide and assimilation, in ancient times, against all odds. This year the thought of Israel fighting against overwhelming odds is greatly on our minds!
The celebration will begin at 1:30 pm with a Shuk (marketplace) where you can shop for handmade crafts, books and other items, and schmoozing. (Please bring cash.) Meanwhile, there will be children's Hanukkah craft activities and cookie decorating, followed by a Hanukkah program in the sanctuary. We finish the evening with a bring-and-share meal of victory by faith, of latkes & finger foods. See What to Bring to a Hanukkah Party.
Again, this year: Homemade Donut/Fritter Contest! Make your prize-winning donut/fritter recipe at home and bring them ready to serve. Must be made fresh from scratch. Entries will be judged on appearance, taste, texture, aroma, and non-greasy palate. Prize will be awarded for the winning entry. More details and entry forms are here.
Want to make Sufganiyot? (Israeli filled donuts) Here is the easiest recipe of all by Jamie. (A 1-minute fun video.)
Schedule:
1:30-4 pm: The Shuk (marketplace) is open!
2:00-3:45 Children's Hanukkah activities and cookie decorating
3:30-4:00 p.m. Donut Judging. NOTE: kitchen will be closed during this time.
4:00 pm: Group Hanukkiah lighting – bring yours to light!
4:15 pm to 5 p.m. Haulsmarx Tour
5:00 pm: Announcement of the winners of the Homemade Donut/Fritter Contest.
5:10-6:30 pm: Bring and Share meal together: bring latkes (recipe), finger foods, fried chicken. More food suggestions.
6:35 pm: To complete your party experience, everyone share in cleanup to keep our home lovely.
Or HaOlam teaches Jewish life in the Messiah of Israel. We are part of a world-wide movement of Jewish Congregations and people of all ethnic groups who follow Yeshua (Jesus) in the context of Jewish lifestyle and identity. We meet weekly every Saturday morning at 10 am.
Working to bring Jewish people, and those grafted in, to their covenantal identity in Messiah. Implies: 1.) Salvation through the Atonement of the Messiah; personal faith in the atoning death and resurrection of Yeshua; it's all about the King 2.) Covenantal identity of Jewish people, not replacement 3.) Restoration to Torah lifestyle 4.) Restoration/survival of the nation of Israel. (Covenantal identity, so Jewish believers don't assimilate. Romans 11:15 "For if their casting Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean? It will be life from the dead!)
